Of all the stages of life, teens years are the most difficult. Beginning at thirteen, children began making their own decisions about where they want to go, what they want to do, and who they want to be with. They go from highs to lows in minutes. Lucky is the teenager whose father and mother are on the same page deciding rules and helping their teenager keep them. Blessed is the teenager who is not afraid to confide his mistakes to his parents. Five teenagers decided to go swimming and then what they call “Off Roading” on a mesa some distance from Albuquerque. Suddenly the truck went off the top of the mesa into a ravine. Four of them got out of the truck and tried to free the tires. A cold wind blew through their wet hair, coyotes howled in the distance. Unknown to them a lone car was parked on a hill above watching their frantic efforts to get out. Gathering brush for traction they tried again and again without success. Nothing worked. Freezing cold and discouraged, at midnight, they decided it was time to call for help. After talking about which parent to call a granddaughter called her mother and said, “We are stuck and can’t get the truck out.” Her mother passed the telephone to dad and he hung up on her. Mother began getting ready to go to the rescue. Having second thoughts Father joined. They mapped the location of the mesa. It was one and a half hours away. Using a tow rope her Father pulled them out. They arrived home about 3 a.m. She and her friends will be eternally grateful for parents who without rebuke rescued and forgave their poor judgment.
