The Value of Mothering

There can be no price placed on the value of Mothers. A renowned statesman and leader, Ezra Taft Benson, said, “ No society will long survive without mother’s who care for their young and provide that nurturing care so essential for their normal development.” I have always admired the motherhood of Abigail Adams. She stood by her husband John while he was miles away in Philadelphia working with those who signed the God inspired Declaration of Independence. Their love story and relationship is epic. She taught and raised the five children born to them without murmuring. She nurtured their children in such a way that her son John Quincy Adams became a President of the United States. The story is told of her taking young John Quincy to a hill opposite Charlestown on Saturday June 17, 1775 to watch its burning of Charlestown and the battle of Bunker Hill. This probably as much as anything else prepared him to serve as President of the United States.
