“And there were in the same country, Shepherds abiding in their the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.” - Luke 2:8
We celebrated with Christmas turkey on Christmas Eve because of the fun responsibilities ahead. After Christmas dinner, wherein we often invited guests who might not be having a special Christmas, one time it was an Uncle who’s wife had passed, sometimes missionaries, solders who just returned from a tour of duty, and one time two young men working for the Job Corps. Dinner was more special with our Christmas guests. We felt we were letting Joseph and Mary into our home. After dinner, we gathered in the family room to act out the story of the Nativity as one of us read from the family Bible, Luke 2:1-18 and Mathew 2:1,10-11 or narrated a play we found. Always this was the most wonderful part of the evening. In the picture above, two of our children, a three year old and five year old are dressed as shepherds under the piano bench. Patsy our dog was the sheep. A special spirit floated into the room as we sang and performed that night in Bethlehem when the Savior of the world was born. A friend shared her experience with me saying: “Sometimes the Shepherds ran off with the baby and Joseph left the scene of action.”
