Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting;
The soul that rises with us our life’s Star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting,
And cometh from afar;
Not in entire forgetfulness,
And not n utter nakedness,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come
From God, who is our home:
Heaven lies about us in our infancy!
-Wordsworth’s Ode; Intimations of Immortality...
Sometime during my high school or college years, I memorized this beautifully written Wordsworth Ode and thought about it often as my children were born. A feeling of great responsibility would come over me as I taught them and prayed they would make righteous choices so they could again return to “God, who is our home.” The picture was taken when our fourth child was born and given a name and a blessing in the Riverdale 1st Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
