One day I asked a one of my children, “What would you like to be when you grow up?” To my surprise, he said, “Myself!” Next to loving God, children should learn to love and respect themselves. We do not want our children to become a victim of someone who will control them and they always “turn the other cheek!” Someone said, “For a faithful Christian turning the other cheek does not mean to become another man’s puppet, nor to compromise one’s principles. It simply means to refuse to play the other’s “dirty game,” As parents we teach them correct principles and help them govern themselves. This is not an easy task. Life and it’s adversities enter in and we as parents are distracted about what matters most. I tried to check on how things were going by having a birthday interview. The answers received, were often funny, enlightened me on their likes and dislikes, and helped me evaluate how I was doing.
Loving Yourself!
