"Little People"

“I love these little people; and it is not a slight thing,

when they who are so fresh from God, love us.” –Charles Dickens

We had wanted children and they had not come in the time frame we hoped for, but eventually they did come. When our first child reach two-years-old, I realized I had a temper that could rise quickly if not checked. This two-year-old was challenging and had a mind of his own. With the knowledge that I had a temper, the next thought was: “You must get control of this or everything will be ruined.” How could I control my temper? I prayed for help and read every book I could find about children, their age characteristics, how to discipline, and mothering skills. I wanted to do this job of mothering well.  Some time later, another challenging day occurred.  Using everything within me to control myself, the thought came, “Instead of getting angry, take a picture.” Thus, I have lots of funny pictures. I don’t remember all the circumstances about the one above, but probably I had just cleaned up the house and had started to prepare a meal for company that would arrive soon.  Thanks to my previous experience, I turned what could have been a sad situation into a funny and happy one. Continuing my studies about “Mothering,” I read, “children come here with a history.” Our responsibility is to do our best to build on that history; not an easy task.
