“A great conductor was leading a symphony of animals ...”
- Tom Dooley, The True Story of Noah’s Ark
Growing up on a farm, I loved to ride the beautiful horses, my father provided for his children. I watched the piglets, the baby calves, and the cows. I am so grateful for having a close relationship with some of God’s creatures. One day while watching a granddaughter, she found a bug in the kitchen. As I went to get rid of the bug, she said, “Don’t put it in the garbage, it’s mom and dad might be sad.” I looked at her and though, Who would think bugs lived in families. She has something with bugs and loves them. She is one cute little girl. With these thoughts, I got the bug on a piece of paper and escorted it outside.
On another day, as we took the children for a hike at a nearby park, I was hoping we would see something special so they could be excited to walk the trail. An older granddaughter who loved the out of doors was leading the way. All at once she motioned for everyone to be quiet. We all stopped and listened to rustling bushes and looked in the direction of her pointing finger. Softly walking through the undergrowth of Juniper and Red Oak trees was a beautiful brown Doe. We motioned for the lagging children to quietly hurry and catch up. We got one more glimpse of her through a wreath of twisted brush and leaves then she was gone.
Share with your children and grandchildren the beautiful creatures God has made for us to enjoy. Go to a living farm, visit a zoo, or go on a hike and marvel at the critters with long tails, short tales, beady eyes and tall necks, those who wear masks and those that like to make you laugh.
