After my book signing my daughter and I toured the house where Anna Jarvis was born. We marveled at the lovely home built in 1854. Granville, Ann Marie’s husband spared no money to spoil his wife. Ann Marie’s taste for style and beauty was above reproach. The kitchen was well organized. The dining room contained her china set on a dining table everyone would enjoy, along with a fully equipped china cupboard. Ann Marie loved music as witnessed by the organ and piano that graced the living room along with a sofa, fireplace, and pictures. We climbed the stairs to the second floor and went into the nursery. A wrought iron crib dressed with handmade quilts greeted us. The dresser contained baby clothes Ann Marie used. There were dolls on chairs and around a tiny tea table with its own tea set. Anna’s room had an intricately designed bedspread. The dresser contained items Anna used. Authentic clothes she wore dressed the walls along with fashionable hats and pictures. We loved Ann Marie’s bedroom room complete with a bassinet and rocking chair. As stated in my book, “... of the eleven children Ann Marie gave birth to, only four lived.” Josiah, eleven years old, excited to have a baby sister, carved her name “Anna” into the fireplace.
