“Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this

continent a new nation." - Abraham Lincoln

Amazon writes: “Born to a family of farmers, Lincoln stood out from an early age—literally! (He was six feet four inches tall.) As sixteenth President of the United States, he guided the nation through the Civil War and saw the abolition of slavery. But Lincoln was tragically shot one night at Ford’s Theater—the first President to be assassinated. Over 100 black-and-white illustrations and maps are included.”

MY REVIEW: A five star book; diligently and delightfully written and illustrated. I love the fact that Janet B. Pascal writes about the books Lincoln read while growing up, among them the Bible and Aesop’s Fables. I loved the Humorous side of Lincoln she showed when he switched the two grooms, the incident with the Justice of the peace asking for his opinions: “because what he said was always so funny, But his opinions were very intelligent.” I loved her description of his relationship with Mary Todd, the stories about his two sons, Tad and Willie in the white house, their antics and his reaction to them. The author did an amazing job of explaining abolitionists, the Dred Scott Decision, and the war. I have visited may of the places described and love the illustrations.
