THE BLUEST OF BLUES - ANN ATKINS AND THE FIRST BOOK OF PHOTOGRAPHS

by Fiona Robinson

At first, as I looked through the book, I thought, that is not of interest to me. Then, I read a book review and thought, O.K. I need to read this. I gave it to my grandson to read and was amazed as he told the story and recited a few of the lines.

Then I read it. Note these words:

“Anna finds a poppy.

She wants to keep the poppy forever. Father passes her the book. She opens it and places the poppy on the pages. She closes the cover, pressing the flower flat. It will dry there between the pages, preserved for her to examine later.

Father claps in delight.”

It is a book about father-daughter relationships, botany, insects, sea shells, the beginning of photography and so much more. Don’t miss reading it with your children.
