Mt. Rushmore, South Dakota

Leaving Wyoming, we traveled on to SOUTH DAKOTA. The night wind ruffled my hair as we walked through the column of flags to see the colossal faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and. Theodore Roosevelt carved in the granite Black Hills of South Dakota. “Guizon Borghum created the 60-foot-tall heads. First is George Washington 1732-1799 honoring him for the freedoms we enjoy in America and for being the Father of this Country. Next is Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) who wrote our sacred document the Declaration of Independence. Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) championed the founding of national parks, forests, and monuments, not an easy task. Fourth is our beloved President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) for bringing freedom to all. May we and the rising generation honor the values they established.
