Caramel Apples
6 apples
1 (14 ounce) package of caramels)
Check on the expiration date.
Be sure they are not old caramels.
2 Tbs. milk
6 Craft popsicle sticks
2 cups chopped pecans, walnuts, slivered almonds, or peanuts
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 tsp. shortening
Decorative candy sprinkles
Butter cookie sheet. Remove stem from each apple. Press craft stick on top and place apples aside. Unwrap caramels and place in microwave safe bowl. Add milk. Microwave 2 minutes on high for 45 seconds, stir. Microwave 20-40 seconds longer until caramels are melted. Stir until smooth. Allow to cool slightly. Quickly roll each apple in the caramel mixture until well coated. Coat with nuts. Place on buttered cookie sheet.
Melt chocolate chips and shortening. Drizzle over apples. Add decorative candy sprinkles if desired.
